Stewardship

“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” ~ 1 Peter 4:10

What exactly do we mean when we talk about Christian stewardship? Christian stewardship is a way of life. We are committed to our common belief that as a family of faith we are called to share our gifts of time, talent, and treasure in return for the many blessings each of us has received from God.

Christian stewardship is living out our commitment to be centered on Jesus Christ, rather than ourselves. It involves an ongoing conversion of the heart. For each of us, no matter where we are on our personal path of faith, stewardship is a lifelong journey. Stewardship is, therefore, much more than a program or a fund-raising effort.

A Christian steward is one who receives God’s gifts gratefully, cultivates them responsibly, shares them lovingly in justice with others, and returns them with an increase to the Lord. At the core of the human and Christian vocations we have received from God is the requirement we be good stewards of the gifts we possess. Stewardship is part of our spiritual journey.

You may be asking yourself, “But what exactly are my spiritual gifts?” If you’re uncertain, a spiritual gift survey may help you to discern where God is calling you to serve. The ELCA offers such a survey, which we invite you to take. Once you have your survey results, you can discuss them with the Stewardship Team, and we can help guide you to one or more of our many church ministries.

If you believe you already understand your spiritual gifts and are ready to serve our worship and surrounding communities, you can volunteer at our Serving Opportunities tab. The leaders of the ministries in which you are interested will then contact you.
